It’s a sad day for Daniel Craig fans, as the reigning James Bond admits he prefers death to 007. But hey, look on the bright side. At least we’ve got a new The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2 IMAX poster to cheer us up, as well as the latest on Alien: Paradise Lost from Ridley Scott, and the casting announcement of the Pink Ranger in the new Power Rangers movie! All this and more in today’s Movie Morsels.
Daniel Craig has always given hilariously blunt interviews, but his latest might have gone a bit too far. The SPECTRE star says that while 007 may have a license to kill, the thought of playing James Bond again makes him want to kill himself. Oof.
“I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists,” Craig tells Time Out. “No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on.” The star adds that if he did do another Bond, “it would only be for the money.”
As for who will next play Bond, Craig remarks, “Look, I don’t give a f—. Good luck to them. All I care about is that if I stop doing these things we’ve left it in a good place and people pick it up and make it better.”
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay–Part 2
Things get pretty surreal in the latest poster for the final installment of The Hunger Games, promoting the film’s IMAX release. Starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Julianne Moore, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone, Willow Shields, Natalie Dormer, Robert Knepper, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Donald Sutherland, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2 opens on November 20.
Alien: Paradise Lost
Ridley Scott has offered a little more on the new characters joining Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender in his Prometheus sequel/Alien prequel Alien: Paradise Lost…
“It’s going to be it’s own separate thing because they are going to the planet of the Engineers and they are going to see what happened there. It was a disaster,” Scott says. “And they will be in that alien craft that takes them there, but with a new group that’s incoming, a new group of travelers in the beginning of the first act.”
Whether or not those travelers have something to do with Ellen Ripley, whom Scott has said has a connection to the film, remains to be seen. In any case, Alien: Paradise Lost is due on May 30, 2017
While its by no means a household name in the US, the science fiction comic Valerian is hugely popular popular in Europe, and operates well within the tradition of French sci-fi graphic albums that Luc Besson’s The Fifth Element tapped into. So we’ve every reason to be hopeful that Besson’s film adaptation will prove a visual feast fit for a king. At the very least, Besson appears to want the look of his next epic to be as imaginative as possible. The director is inviting emerging costume designers to compete in a contest, the winner of which will see their designs utilized in a scene in the film…
Starring Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne, Valerian starts shooting in December for a release on July 21, 2017.
Finally today… A generation of American boys (and more than a few girls) experienced their first bout of puppy love thanks to Amy Jo Johnson’s Pink Ranger on the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV show in the early ’90s. Well, expect another generation to fall head over heels for her successor. Lionsgate has just revealed who will play the character in its new Power Rangers movie: Naomi Scott, who can now be seen on screen in The Martian. Directed by Project Almanac helmer Dean Israelite, Power Rangers lands on January 13, 2017.
