Happy Friday, everyone! Before you head out to the multiplex to watch Popstar or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, let’s get this first weekend of June started with today’s Movie Morsels. We have the trailer for the super-sized Ultimate Edition of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a new poster for Independence Day: Resurgence, and much more!
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
The digital HD version of the R-rated edition of this year’s most hated superhero movie arrives on June 28 (with the Blu-ray edition following a few weeks later on July 19). That’s right, Zack Snyder’s much despised Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will presumably get darker, grittier, broodier, moodier, and grimdarker as it grows a half hour longer for its “Ultimate Edition”… not that there’s much evidence of that in its new trailer.
Nope. No blood, F-bombs or nudity here. (Though Ben Affleck does get a shower scene.) The one element that may be of interest to even the film’s detractors, however, is the always watchable Jenna Malone, who shows up as a bespectacled coworker of Lois Lane, and who seems just a little too chipper for a film this glum…
Independence Day: Resurgence
The long-awaited sequel to one of the biggest blockbusters of the ’90s will be here at last on June 24. Independence Day: Resurgence promises a rematch between Earth and the alien invaders who would destroy humanity. Fortunately, Independence Day stars returning players Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, and Brent Spiner, joined this time by such charismatic young stars as Liam Hemsworth and Charlotte Gainsbourg. (Hmmm… Hey, did I mention Jeff Goldblum?!) Anyway, here’s the film’s new IMAX poster, which like most IMAX posters, is prettier than the standard release poster.
Ice Age: Collision Course
Those of you who have kids are no doubt wondering if the next Ice Age movie will offer enough laughs or story to amuse adults. Well, maybe you can get some idea of that from the film’s first official clip below. The Fox Family animated comedy, opening on July 22, sees the return of Scrat, Sid, Manny, and Diego, joined this time by a host of new characters. As always, they’re voiced by an all-star cast, consisting of Ray Romano, Denis Leary, John Leguizamo, Queen Latifah, Seann William Scott, Josh Peck, Simon Pegg, Keke Palmer, Wanda Sykes, and Jennifer Lopez; with Ice Age newbiews Stephanie Beatriz, Adam DeVine, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Max Greenfield, Jessie J, Nick Offerman, Melissa Rauch, Michael Strahan, and Neil de Grasse Tyson. Whew!
Finally today, we have a clip from the very first feature film from the director of Marvel’s upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming. Before helming last year’s acclaimed Cop Car, Jon Watts directed a little horror film by the name of Clown, which is finally getting a limited theatrical release and hitting On Demand on June 17. Man, if the rest of Clown is half as funny as this, then I’m more excited than ever for Spidey’s next movie!
