“I am standing up at the water’s edge in my dream
I cannot make a single sound as you scream
It can’t be that cold, the ground is still warm to touch
This place is so quiet, sensing that storm
Red rain is coming down“
— Peter Gabriel, “Red Rain”
Batman is a hero of few words, so it can’t hurt to let Peter Gabriel sing what the Caped Crusader is probably feeling, having been turned into a vampire and all. In Red Rain, the first of three installments in an Elseworlds Batman versus Dracula battle, Bruce gets bitten but uses his powers for good…at least at first. You can kinda tell by looking at him that bad things are coming, though. But since historians remain unsure who the real Dracula’s mother was, there’s a chance the whole thing could be solved if she turns out to be named Martha.
Based on a previously released poster by Francesco Francavilla, Mondo Toys’ Red Rain statue is made of polystone and stands about 15 inches tall. If you order directly from Mondo’s website (something you can only do until this Friday at noon central time), you can get yourself an exclusive version with an extra interchangeable arm…that’s holding a stake, of course. Considering you have a couple of days compared to some of Mondo’s instant sell-out posters, we’d call that stake medium-rare. But it’s only $5 more to make the Bat more pointedly armed.
Created by Nathan Mansfield, Mara Ancheta, Andrea Coleman, Jason Wires, Francesco Francavilla, and Simon Garcia, the statue will ship some time in the second quarter of 2017. Check out more of the details in some additional pictures below, like the coffin filled with orange skulls! You’ll have to arrange your own creepy lighting, however, assuming you’re brave enough to do so; he’s terrifying enough in plain old broad daylight.
How will you display your vampire Batman? Safely surrounded by garlic? Staring at you from your bedside table? Let us know in comments where in the house would be the perfect spot.
