There was too much insanity on the internet this week. Here’s the hot takes from a week of winning that crazy space.
Alice Wetterlund, Ricky Velez and Jesse Joyce had great ideas for Paula Deen’s new game from the App Store to start the week off on @midnight. In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, the hashtag war was #MakeACelebrityIrish, and it was as deep and real as the bottom of a glass of Guinness. There was no actual alcohol consumption, but man was it talked about a lot.
Tuesday started out with a visit from Leprechaun Paul Scheer. Alongside him, April Richardson, and Sean Patton were very funny. Things got awkward with the discussion of #RaceTogether and all the other things you should not talk about over coffee with your barista. #NBABands provided some great nostalgia and anticipation for a new sports season. And they identified some seriously interesting parallels between improv groups and ska bands.
Ron Funches, Rick Glassman and Bianca Kajlich took the stage on Wednesday night. Darth Vader and Iggy Azalea were mentioned within the first five minutes of the show so we knew it was going to be great. We had some great flashbacks with #BeforeTwitterI in the hashtag war and Chris let slip that there are VHS tapes of Singled Out. And most importantly, everyone was charmed by Ron Funches laugh, as always. Oh and there was some internet exploration and Tinder because of course there was.
Thursday night brought the minds behind Childrens Hospital to @midnight. David Wain, Rob Huebel and Erinn Hayes came together to win the internet. #AdorableIllnesses allowed them to really utilize their medical knowledge. I’m personally most interested in tickle cell anemia. Everyone agreed that there really are some things that even Amazon’s self-publishing platform shouldn’t let get through. And YouTube is a weird place.
