Readers, we are at the end of our three weeks of @midnight actually airing at 11pm, and to celebrate the end of these eventful three weeks Chris invited friend, comedian, and @midnight Hall of Famer, Ron Funches to appear on every episode for the week. Welcome, one and all, to Bunches of Funches Week.
Jessica Lowe, John Hodgeman, and Ron Funches
The week began, as it tends to do, on Monday. Chris and his friends decided to start the show realizing that the Emmy Awards were quite emotional and serious this year, leaving them nothing to make jokes about. So, each of the contestants offered up the worst Emmy speech they could think of instead. Things then took a turn for the awkward in Rapid Refresh. The subject of #PigGate prompted Chris to task the panelists with creating British slang for “pig ****ing.” This then lead to the revelation that Chris Hardwick does a damn good Kermit the Frog impression. They quickly switched gears, however, to think of other socially conscious snacks that might follow in the footsteps of Rainbow Doritos. The first #HashtagWars topic for the week looked for #OneLetterOffSongs, in which changing a letter in a song title would change the song entirely. Check out what the comedians came up with in the clip below. Next up, in a game called Atlas Shrugged, Chris offered each comedian a series of Google Street View photos and asked them to use them as a reference for giving someone, namely Chris, driving directions. Chris’s Live Challenge took several unanswered questions trolls had tweeted to Donald Trump during his #AskTrump event on Twitter, and asked the comedians to answer them as Donald Trump. The last regular game, Cooklyn, gave the contestants 60 seconds to offer up as many Hipster bar menu items as they could, and FTW took the idea of after-death social media updates, and asked for a status update the comedians would leave after their own death.

Well, readers, it seems Apple is releasing the new iPhone 6S with a strange emoji included in its catalog, and Chris wanted the comedians to explain what it could possibly mean as they kicked off the Tuesday night show. Rapid Refresh was chock-full of douchebag moves, as Chris asked the comedians to predict Martin Shkreli’s next one, as well as pitch new slogans for Volkswagen after their emissions test fiasco. The week’s second topic for #HashtagWars, #NewMuppetPlotlines, was in honor of the premiere of ABC’s new The Muppets show and the outrage some had at it’s adult humor. Of course, this meant the comedians creating even more raunchy and over-the-top stories for our favorite Hensen creations, and Chris proving once again he does great impressions of Muppets. Next, Chris showed clips from an old ’80s instructional video for “being cool at parties,” and asked the comedians to guess which of two possible answers each clip would offer as advice. This may have been the most cringe-worthy game of the week, so check out the clip below and brush up on being ’80s cool. Staying with the retro theme, the Live Challenge asked for the comedians to leave voicemail messages for someone based on their pre-recorded answering machine song. After that, the comedians took aim at high fashion by naming various ridiculous outfits displayed at fashion week, and FTW had the comedians create one last “Did You Know” graphic about Scott Walker to commemorate his failed GOP campaign.

Ron Funches again? AWESOME! Our third night of Bunches of Funches started with Chris looking for recommendation for the Pope’s “More American” Pope-mobile during his trip to the U.S.of A. Rapid Refresh took a look at viral videos of animals like Pizza Rat and Milkshake Squirrel before asking the comedians to offer up a new viral “food animal.” Chris also inquired as to what the comedians planned to do to celebrate the upcoming blood moon that is predicted to signify the end of days. #HashtagWars did exactly what the internet was created for as everyone was invited to make cat puns with #CatHistory. The next game had our three comedians offering up lines from a fake movie trailer based on Photoshop pictures of celebrities in everyday jobs. It’s enough fun to be the clip of the episode, so check it out below. Wednesday’s Live Challenge took its cue from a video of Bostonians freaking out over a sun fish while out on a boat, and asked the comedians do their best impression of a Bostonian having their mind blown by something mundane. Chris offered the comedians sixty seconds to come up with revelations about Ted Nugent as juicy as this one, and FTW paid respects to the passing of baseball legend Yogi Berra with “lesser known Yogiism.”

Our final episode at 11pm, and the end of Bunches of Funches week, taught everyone a valuable lesson: selfies are more dangerous than sharks. With this new information, Chris opened the show by asking the comedians to offer up a new tagline for a Jaws reboot that centered around deadly selfies. Next up was our weekly trip into the Panderdome where Chris and the comedians hypothesized how else Bernie Sanders is appealing to Juggalos, other than just an inside joke in an email, and a video of Mike Huckabee playing bass guitar prompted the comedians to come up with names for a possible Huckabee-centric band. Chris’s disinterest in sports lead to our week’s last topic in #HashtagWars, as the comedians came up with #NewNFLTeams. The comedians had to answer various questions based on professional wrestling videos, and their Live Challenge was to create an audition tape for NWA Mountain State Wrestling. It is more than worth your time, so check it out in the clip below, but I recommend following the previous link first for context. After all of the fun of wrestling, we ventured into the world of terrible human beings as the comedians had 60 seconds to guess what other terrible things we will learn about Martin Shkreli now that he has been doxed. Finally, the week ended on an interesting note as a snake reportedly gave birth without ever having been in contact with a male snake. The only thing to do with this news, of course, was to make FTW a challenge in writing sermons from Snake Jesus.
Well, readers I hope you enjoyed the week full of infectious giggles that was Bunches of Funches. Be sure to check out any episode of @midnight you might have missed on Comedy Central’s website, and come back next week as we take a look at @midnight, officially back at midnight.
