@midnight Gets 40 Week Order From Comedy Central #huzzah

We knew that @midnight was a hit, and that after the latest episode it would go on hiatus while Comedy Central decided how to proceed, but this:

Yes, Deadline.com is reporting that the show has been given a 40-week renewal, with new shows coming starting January 6th. 40 weeks! Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva has numbers:

The renewal is not surprising given how strong the show has done in Comedy Central’s target young and male demos. In Men 18-34, Men 18-24 and persons 18-24, @midnight is the No.3 highest ranked late-night show in all of television — cable or broadcast — only behind Comedy Central’s The Daily Show and Colbert Report through its first three weeks. In adults 18-34, it is No.3 among all cable late-night programs (323,000), and in adults 18-49 it ranks fourth with 453,000. Among total viewers, @midnight averages 624,000. Not surprisingly, given @midnight’s social media focus, it is the most popular late-night show on Twitter by a mile.

There WILL be more @midnight. And… thank YOU. It’s your viewing and support that made this happen.

Awesome news. Now you can try things like tournament of champions. Do more theme days. Loved the Halloween show! Points for all of us!

  2. Andrew says:

Points!! Congrats to Chris, Matt, Blaine, Tom et al! Huzzah! indeed.

  3. Lucy says:

Love love love the show so I’m stoked for 40 more weeks. Congrats to all involved! One suggestion: could you please have three ladies on the same show at some point? Just y’know, consider it. Thanks!

  4. Frankie says:

    fuuuuuuuck yeaaah dude!

  5. JetpackBlues says:

Congrats to everyone on the show!

Been spreading the word, not just because I’m a Hardwick sycophant, simply due to it being such a fun show. And the online component is genius.

I think what has helped, or should be taken in account, is the 8pm EST rerun the following day. The slot after the Daily Show/Colbert is important, but not nearly as much as a Prime Time slot Tue-Fri.

  6. Tom Mathewson says:

Congrats to all @midnight, I love this show and I am 52!!!

  7. Cartman says:

    AWESOMEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CANT WAIT!!!!

  8. Smiles says:

Great to hear, I look forward to more new episodes. I like to watch it online after I get off work — its pretty perfect.

  9. amysrevenge says:

No time conflict for me with Pete’s show, although it’s not helpful to the numbers for either. They come on at 1am in my timezone – there’s no way I’m watching in real time. Online only…

  10. Sean says:

Great news! Congrats to Chris, Matt and the whole crew, keep bringing the funny and Ill keep watching!

  11. Gary Bravender says:

A big Huzzahhh! to all at Nerdist who’s hard work has paid off. It’s kinda a double edge sword though.Pete Holmes’ new show is on at the same time and seeing how both shows are going after the same viewers, competition will be fierce.

  12. Paige says:

So glad to hear this is renewed. It makes me laugh every time it’s on.

  13. Jeffery Keown says:

This news made my morning! Congrats, everyone!

  14. chrisM says:

Hurrah with much fanfare and dancing about!

  15. greg says:

I assume that 40 weeks means 1 year, essentially – 12 weeks off, much like TDS/Colbert.

  16. michaelscott says:

I fucking love this show, and am psyched for more! Well done sir.

  17. Colossus Prime says:

Many, many congratulations for this! I am so psyched. The show is so damned funny it has made any bad day I’ve had do a complete 180. Thank you so, so much for all of the work you do on it.

  18. Joseph M says:

Now Matt can buy his James Bond Rolex.

  19. Rick says:

Wonderful. The funniest half hour on television. And the whole stable of podcast/alt comics (Sorry) are getting much deserved air time. Thank you Chris Hardwick!

  20. Mccrackelz says:

It’s only a matter of time before the daily show, colbert report, and @midnight coalesce into the comedic singularity.

I welcome the end! Congratulations Nerdist.

  21. Deanna says:

Love the show, I’m so happy for you! Congrats!

  22. Amy says:

All my watching it online paid off!

  23. Kevin says:

Jesus! 40 weeks? Congrats! I’m really, really happy and proud of you guys.

Chris will now be able to fulfill his lifelong dream of working 24 hours a day for 40 weeks. Someone call Guinness!

  24. Teague Dwyer says:

    Congratulations Chris and Matt.

I listen to a lot of comedy podcasts, and many of the people I listen to have been on this show. It’s the first show to come along that, to me, encompasses what makes comedy podcasts so great: irreverent, off the cuff hilarity. Without blowing smoke up your arse it’s easily the funniest show on TV right now, and with a couple months to polish the rough edges, it’s only going to get better.

    Way to go guys.

  25. Mary Rose says:

POINTS! Congratulations! Your show is funny, witty, and smart. I look forward to it on my TiVo every night. Well deserved!

  26. Lasgun42 says:

Yay, I am still in one demographic that counts. And Congratulations.

  27. SeaAtl says:

Congratulations for the well deserved pick up! Don’t know why they waited so long!

  28. Mike Webster says:

    Points!

  29. Rurouni says:

Nice to hear the good news. But please for the love of god, stop with the Pierre jokes, i don’t know if there is something i am missing or is something cut out of episodes but all the Pierre “jokes” are unbearably lame.

  30. diemrbond says:

    Points!

  31. Alex says:

Glad to hear this and wondering if Matt will ever get to be on the show or will him being a writer on the show make him ineligible?

  32. James Warren says:

Another New Zealander here. Any way you can get this to our shore by legal means would be fantastic.

Do this mean with a more foxed schedule Chris the podcast guests will be those on the show across the week? This is well earned. Congrats Matt too.

Now how does Jonah fit into the puzzle? The beautiful assistant to manages the score. Not sure I want to see him in a skimpy dress.

  33. Finn Nicolas says:

Since I live in New Zealand and have to pirate it every Tuesday-Friday after school, the viewing numbers are entirely unrelated to me. I love the show so much and am extremely happy that it has been picked up, I was thinking about it earlier today and was worried that I would only ever get 20 episodes of @Midnight.

  34. Megan says:

Congrats! The show is hilarious. Glad that all your guys hard work paid off. I’ll be looking forward to the new season!

  35. Scuba Steve says:

But when does talking @ midnight start? Funny ass show. Glad to see it being picked up.

  36. misosoup517 says:

YAY! It keeps getting better. So glad for all of you!

  37. Chris not Hardwick says:

Even though I think that the show is just not for for me, Congrats.

  38. Kris says:

i hope Mira doesn’t go out and buy any RIDICULOUSLY expensive guitars because of this pick up…

  39. Brian Poindexter says:

Congrats to Hardwick, Mira, and the rest of the crew! I love this show!

  40. erik2690 says:

Happy for all involved. Great news for a fun show I have been enjoying.

  41. amysrevenge says:

I’m so happy about this. Good job to everyone involved.

  42. What Happened To The Quements says:

Making it from now until January without being able to look forward to midnight is going to be tough. But hey, there’s Doctor Who stuff going on.

Also looking forward to the next big announcement, when the show is extended to an hour after your 40 week run!

  43. Mark Mellecker says:

    Rad! Congrats all around!

  44. Congrats Chris. The show’s funnier than it has any right to be!

  45. Emmie Mears says:

    Rules.

This makes me oh, so happy. Congratulations!
