You wouldn’t think that anyone would necessarily find a lot of love in Mad Max: Fury Road, but that’s exactly what happened with two of the talented stunt doubles working on set in 2012. For Dane and Danya Grant, love truly was found in a hopeless place.

Grant was brought to the Mad Max set to be Tom Hardy‘s rehearsal double at the beginning of the movie’s shoot three years ago. There he met Dayna (then Porter), the New Zealander stuntwoman who would was performing stunts for Imperator Furiosa actress Charlize Theron. The talented performer had previously doubled Theron on Snow White and the Huntsman. While fellow New Zealander Jacob Tomuri was eventually announced as Hardy’s official shoot stunt double, Grant stayed on the Namibian set throughout the shoot and can be found playing various “war boy” characters in the film. It was during the unexpectedly long shoot (they originally thought it would only take a month while it ended up taking more than six) that Grant and Porter fell in love. They have since married and are raising their 14-month old son together.

The South African stuntman told The Telegraph, “Dayna and I had a lot in common with those two characters, meeting for the first time, learning to trust each other under stressful conditions…pretty much just get on with what you’re supposed to while on a mission through the desert with a bunch of weirdly dressed post-apocalyptic characters everywhere you look.”
The love story sounds straight out of the fan fiction-loving hearts of the internet. If two people can find love on Fury Road, there’s hope for us all, right? You can follow along with their continuing love story by following both Dane and Danya on Twitter. There fun behind the scenes to be found from both.
