Are you watching Showtime’s Masters of Sex? (You better say yes if you know what’s good for you.) It was one of the most brilliant new series to come out of 2013 and now we’ve got a deeper look at the second season of Bill Masters and Virginia Johnson’s groundbreaking and provocative work on the study of sex, scientifically speaking. It’s a second trailer!
Masters and Johnson (played by Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan, respectively) were scientists on the forefront of the biological understanding of how, exactly, the human body responds to sexual stimuli. Their work ushered in the sexual revolution of the 1960s. They were forward-thinking pioneers with terrible odds of morality and squeemishness stacked up against them. Oh yeah — and they also had one of the more confounding and fascinating interpersonal relationships we’ve ever seen anywhere (let alone on TV). All of this, of course, makes for some seriously riveting drama.
Written and created by Michelle Ashford, the series is based on the book Masters of Sex by Thomas Maier and features some seriously impressive, heavy-lifting guest stars such as the must-be-nominated-for-an-Emmy Allison Janney, Beau Bridges, Caitlin FitzGerald, Julianne Nicholson, and new this season, extremely funny human Sarah Silverman. Honestly, if you’re not watching this show it might be the biggest mistake you could possibly make in 2014. Not that we’re feeling an overwhelming rush of emotions on the subject or anything.
The second season premieres Sunday, July 13th at 10PM on Showtime.
