Earlier this month, the casting news for Marvel’s Luke Cage series on Netflix broke so quickly that neither Marvel nor Netflix were able to keep up! But this week, Marvel has officially announced four new cast members who will join Mike Colter in Luke Cage.
As we reported last week, Simone Missick is making her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Misty Knight in Luke Cage. Unlike her comic book incarnation, Knight will still be a detective in the New York Police Department while she investigates the title character in Luke Cage. If the Luke Cage series is also an origin story for Knight, perhaps we’ll see how she gained her iconic bionic arm from the comics.
Knight’s partner, Rafael Scarfe will be portrayed by Frank Whaley, a veteran actor who has previously appeared in Ray Donovan and Pulp Fiction. Scarfe is described as “a hard-nosed NYPD detective.”
Former Sons of Anarchy star, Theo Rossi was also confirmed as an updated version of Shades, “a relentless, menacing, smooth and manipulative, street-smart criminal, with ties to Cage’s past.” Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker noted that Rossi’s take on Shades “will be someone you hate to love.”
And finally, Rosario Dawson will be back for her third stint as Claire Temple, a role she originated on Daredevil and the upcoming Jessica Jones series. Dawson may have a larger role on Luke Cage, as “her blossoming friendship with [Cage] will have a major impact on both characters’ lives.”
Marvel’s Luke Cage is currently in production and all 13 episodes will debut on Netflix in 2016.
