At long last, Netflix has finally released a full trailer for Marvel’s Jessica Jones. Fans at New York Comic Con had the opportunity to see the very first episode of Jessica Jones earlier this month, but this is the first time any of this footage has been seen outside of that show. But now that we have it, we’re as amped up as all those lucky attendees.
The first 45 seconds of the trailer establish who Jessica (Krysten Ritter) is and what she can do. Mike Colter’s Luke Cage also appears as he learns more about Jessica. Rachael Taylor also makes her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the trailer as Patsy “Trish” Walker, a woman better known to comic book fans as Hellcat. (Carrie-Anne Moss is also briefly glimpsed.) For the rest of the trailer, however, the focus is squarely on how Jessica is haunted by Kilgrave (David Tennant)—her personal nemesis who has the power to make anyone do what he wants. No one is safe from Kilgrave’s reach, not even Jessica Jones herself.
Jessica Jones is largely based on the mature readers comic book series Alias (no relation to the ABC series of the same name) by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos. As in that comic, the live-action Jessica Jones is a former superheroine who suffered a trauma at Kilgrave’s hands that ended her heroic career and sent her life into a downward spiral. Now, Jessica is a private investigator in New York City, but she keeps getting pulled back into the life that she left behind.
All 13 episodes of Jessica Jones will hit Netflix on Friday, November 20.
