Earlier this month, Marvel’s Doctor Strange live-action movie finally started production. And now there’s another cast member joining the film.
World-renowned martial artist, Scott Adkins, has reportedly been added to Doctor Strange’s impressive lineup of stars. There are currently no details about whom Adkins will portray in the movie, but he is said to have “several major action scenes featuring hand-to-hand combat.” That raises the question of whether Adkins’ character will be on Strange’s side, or if he is aligned with the dark forces against Strange.
Adkin’s previous film roles include The Expendables 2, Zero Dark Thirty, The Bourne Ultimatum, Undisputed II and III, as well as X-Men Origins: Wolverine; in which Adkins portrayed the mutated Deadpool who fought Wolverine and Sabretooth in the climactic battle. Adkins is also slated to appear in upcoming films The Brothers Grimsby and Criminal.
Benedict Cumberbatch will play the title character of Doctor Strange, with Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo, Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One, and Michael Stuhlbarg as Nicodemus West. Rachel McAdams is rumored to be playing Christine Palmer, a character who originated in Marvel’s Night Nurse comic. Mads Mikkelsen will appear as the lead villain of Doctor Strange, but it’s not clear which character he will portray. Transparent star Amy Landecker was also recently cast in a currently undisclosed role. The early details of Doctor Strange suggest that the film will incorporate Strange’s origin story and take some of its inspiration from the Doctor Strange: The Oath miniseries.
Doctor Strange will be released on November 4, 2016.
