Who doesn’t love Mark Ruffalo, right? As one of the Internet’s favorite humans (that’s science!), Bruce Banner’s real-life counterpart has made a name for himself not only as an incredible Hulk, but as an activist and generally rationally intelligent human.
It was under the guise of the latter that Ruffalo made his AMA repeat appearance, shedding light on the water crisis currently facing our planet in both its scarcity and the new act of watering crops with oil field water. If you haven’t swooned over the man’s passion for the greater good and general knowhow yet …trust us, you will soon enough.
Perhaps the most pressing comment came in the act of defending Joss Whedon, Avengers: Age of Ultron director and current pop culture obsession, what with the maelstrom of angry tweeters coming after him for the film’s final cut — and his handling of Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson). For Ruffalo, the problem wasn’t Whedon’s depiction of her, but the fact that “part of the problem is that people are frustrated that they want to see more women, doing more things, in superhero movies, and because we don’t have as many women as we should yet, they’re very, very sensitive to every single storyline that comes up right now.”
He later added: “I think that what people might really be upset about is the fact that we need more superhuman women. The guys can do anything, they can have love affairs, they can be weak or strong and nobody raises an eyebrow. But when we do that with a woman, because there are so few storylines for women, we become hyper-critical of every single move that we make because there’s not much else to compare it to.”
Excuse that noise — it’s just our heart fluttering with appreciation and admiration.
