Mirror, mirror, on the wall… Who’s the baddest of them all? Is it a genocidal Jedi? Is it a wicked witch from Oz, under the sea, or a thorny castle? Is it a charming cannibal? An all-seeing eye? Someone from literature, video games, or the silver screen? Choosing the ultimate villain is no easy task, so we took it upon ourselves to use science, math, and debate to figure it out… That’s right, we’re taking the whole “March Madness” sports bracket business into our own hands, with March Badness! *guitar riff*
For the entire month of March, we’re going to pit various pop culture baddies against each other in a scientific study of evil. And because there are so many villains out there, we’ll be whittling the list down to 32 finalists using these parameters:
- Iconography: How iconic is this villain? How memorable are they in their universe?
- Quality of hero(ine): A villain is defined by the good guy or girl they’re matched up against.
- Villainy: How truly evil and devious IS this villain, anyway?
Make sure you submit your bracket using the form above, which will go live at midnight on Friday, March 3 and end at 11:59pm PST on March 8.
Beginning March 9, we’ll have two Twitter polls a day for folks to vote on the matches, and then we’ll discuss the results live with you on Nerdist News Talks Back at 1pm PST! While the whole purpose of this is to figure out once and for all who the worst villain is, you may be able to win some prizes. Besides some SERIOUS bragging rights, we’ll have Alpha subscriptions and a few other surprise giveaways, too. Stay tuned to the bracket for updates about prizes, the full lineup, and more!
