The horror anthology appears to be coming back in a big way. The once-popular feature film format had been dormant for a while but appears to be having a resurgence thanks to films like Trick ‘R Treat, V/H/S, ABCs of Death and others. Now, producer/director Axelle Carolyn has banded together eleven favorite genre directors (they’ve dubbed themselves The October Society) for the upcoming anthology feature Tales of Halloween, ten horror shorts all centering around the best night of the year. In addition to herself, Carolyn was able to assemble an incredible collection of filmmakers, most of whom are local to the Los Angeles area, including The Descent and everyone’s favorite Game of Thrones director Neil Marshall, All Cheerleaders Die and May director Lucky McKee, Saw II and The Devil’s Carnival director Darren Lynn Bousman, Big Ass Spider director Mike Mendez and many, many more.
Tales of Halloween is certainly a labor of love for the genre for everyone involved and fans can expect blood, guts and cameos a plenty. “In Tales of Halloween, every role is filled with iconic figures like John Landis and Stuart Gordon,” said Epic Pictures Co-Founder Shaked Berenson. “It’s a big bloody love letter made by horror fans for horror fans.” Cameos also include Joe Dante, John Landis, Adam Green, Adam Pascal, Adrianne Curry, Mick Garris, Lombardo Boyer, Graham Skipper, Stuart Gordon, Greg McLean, Spooky Dan Walker and Adrienne Barbeau. The team also wrangled The Rocky Horror Picture Show alum Barry Bostwick as you can see in this just released still.
The directors have created a manifesto with rules to create their films based on the values of Halloween night. The antithesis of the Dogme 95 manifesto, the directors will not be frugal with special effects, props and musical score, and have already attracted notable talent in the horror genre in addition to the crazy cameos, such as composers Frank Ilfman (Big Bad Wolves) and Joseph Bishara (Insidious and The Conjuring). Check out the newly released poster!
