Everything is coming up Sam Raimi on Starz’ new Ash vs Evil Dead series. The series, which will expand upon the mythos of the Evil Dead film series, already promised to reunite Bruce Campbell and Raimi, but now it has added yet another cast member, Lucy Lawless.
When asked about whether she was excited to reunite with her Xena: Warrior Princess producers — Raimi and Rob Tapert – -as well as her co-star Campbell, who played Autolycus for 8 episodes, she had this to say:
In a press release, Lawless is confirmed to play the role of Ruby, a mysterious hunter who is “myopic” in her quest to search out the source of the recent outbreaks of Evil. Unfortunately for our chainsaw-handed hero, she believes Ash is responsible for the chaos. The series will shoot in New Zealand and is set to run for 10 half-hour episodes in later 2015. Lawless is the latest addition to a cast that includes Ray Santiago, Dana DeLorenzo, and Jill Marie Jones.
As for what you can expect from the series, Starz describes it as such:
“Bruce Campbell will be reprising his role as Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons –personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its ‘Evil’ grip.”
Although I didn’t see the 2013 Fede Alvarez-directed reboot, I have to say that this news is positively groovy.
Are you excited for Ash vs Evil Dead? What other Raimi regulars would you like to see join the series?
