While the prequels are not without their problems, Star Wars 1-3 do at least shed light on a few of the ins and outs of Jedi life that were unknown (well if you didn’t read all the books and don’t know the Expanded Universe all that well at least). And now, thanks to a young man named Colin, one of those Jedi life rules is set to change.
Jedihopeful Colin is seven and he wants to be able to get married some day. So when he heard that Jedi Knights couldn’t get married (that Anakin is a rule breaker in more ways than one), he wrote to George Lucas to ask for an explanation and change to Jedi law.
Personally I am most impressed with the totally upfront request Colin includes in his letter. I also want to visit Skywalker Ranch, but I’m not an adorable 7 year old. It’s also pretty great that Colin doesn’t want to become a Sith. The Dark Side can be pretty persuasive when the right bait is dangled. He didn’t have to wait long for a response. Lucasfilm didn’t just respond to Colin’s letter. They also sent some totally awesome swag. Here’s the official word from the Head of Jedi Affairs.
Best part of the letter might be “To be a Jedi is to truly know the value of friendship, of compassion, and of loyalty, and these are values important in a marriage” right in the middle. It’s also great to see such a huge company respond so positively and seriously to a kid’s letter. Thanks for being awesome, Lucasfilm. As if the letters themselves couldn’t be cuter, Colin’s mom also recorded her son’s response to the letter. So I’ll just leave this here for you.
Thank you for tuning in for today’s feel-good.
