Colman Domingo’s enigmatic Victor Strand made quite an impression during the first season of Fear The Walking Dead despite only appearing in two episodes. Thankfully, Strand will have an even bigger role in the upcoming second season, now that Domingo is a series regular. But apparently one of Strand’s key scenes was cut from his first appearance.
In a newly revealed deleted scene from Fear The Walking Dead’s upcoming season 1 special edition DVD and Blu-ray, Strand meets Liza Ortiz (Elizabeth Rodriguez) as she desperately searches for Griselda Salazar (Patricia Reyes Spíndola). Liza also attempts to leave a message for Nick Clark (Frank Dillane), but he wasn’t exactly responsive while suffering from withdrawal symptoms.
For the most part, Strand was spectacularly unhelpful. However, he eventually gave Liza the tip that Griselda was being held in a lower level of the base. It would have been interesting to see if Strand had passed on Liza’s message to Nick, since he only saved Nick’s life to earn his loyalty. At the very least, this scene suggests that another Strand and Nick moment may have been filmed that would have answered that question.
While Strand and Liza did meet again during the first season finale, they didn’t really interact before—major spoiler for the first season—Liza coerced her ex-husband, Travis Manawa (Cliff Curtis) to kill her before she could become a walker.
The Fear The Walking Dead season 1 special edition DVD and Blu-ray hits on Tuesday, March 22. Fear The Walking Dead season 2 will begin on April 10, on AMC.
