Oh, hello, my butterflies in the sky – we all know you can go twice as high when you’re a part of the Reading Rainbow… and LeVar Burton, the host of that iconic children’s show, is encouraging everyone to get out on May 3rd (That’s THIS SATURDAY) and enjoy the spoils of Free Comic Book Day.
In this video, he explains why his initial love for reading was spurred on by comic books:
Free Comic Book Day is a great experience for younger readers to discover new stories and help kids stay actively reading. And parents – even if your Nerdlings aren’t reading yet, take them anyway! Graphic novels and comics can often inspire pre-readers to start reading. They see all that action and fun in the pictures, they’re naturally curious about what’s going on, and the only way to find out is to READ!
You can go anywhere! So go to your local comic book store, and pick one of 60 comics to take home for free.
When I was young, my mom picked up a bunch of the old Classics Illustrated comic books at a yard sale and I LOVED them. Helped me ace some book reports later on in high school. What were your favorite comic books when you were a kid?
