Hannah Horvath may be heading to Iowa, but her real-life counterpart Lena Dunham is heading to Springfield. And by that we mean The Simpsons — in a character drawn especially for her!
Slated to arrive in the season 27 premiere episode, which finds Homer and Marge’s marriage on the rocks, her character — twentysomething Candace — doesn’t help matters. Titled “Every Man’s Dream,” the episode will focus on the rocky status of the Simpsons’ marriage. But unlike other episodes in the past that have featured a crisis in the duo’s marriage, “we wanted to do something that wasn’t like the other ones,” explained the series’ executive producer Al Jean.
“We wanted to take a serious look at what it would really be like to be Mrs. Homer Simpson,” he added. But don’t expect it to tow the same ol’ line. “For those who are sick of marriage crisis episodes, it goes in a completely different direction than any before.”
Candace arrives in Homer’s life after being diagnosed with narcolepsy. Her status as a potential romantic interest for Homer (really) is solidified when their paths cross at the pharmacy — Candace is a pharmacist — and the two form an unlikely friendship. (Wonder if it’ll be over a love of doughnuts.)
Here’s what she’ll look like, thanks to Entertainment Weekly:
“I don’t want to say what happens, but I’ll say with a Stewart [Burns] script, it’s always unexpected, and this one is definitely not what you would expect,” Jean teased. TWIST!
