In July, the LA Weekly named The Meltdown, the weekly standup showcase at NerdMelt Showroom at Meltdown Comics in L.A. hosted by our own Kumail Nanjiani and Jonah Ray and produced by our own Emily Gordon, as the best standup comedy show in Los Angeles in a ranking of the top 10 in that category. It’s now October, the weekly alternative newspaper’s “Best of LA” issue is out, and they’ve gone and given The Meltdown another honor: it’s the paper’s “Best Stand-Up Comedy Show – 2012.” Same title, same paper, different competition.
Here’s a little of what the Weekly’s Julie Seebaugh wrote about the winner:
Now a year-plus into new management, remodeling and tech upgrades, both the venue and its offerings have reached new heights, and the Meltdown’s flagship status has only been elevated further. Every Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. it delivers the entire package: the coolest vibe, the most dedicated attendees and the top up-and-comers, huge names and drop-ins of any show around, all for only $8.
Well, yes, it does, but it’s still great when it’s recognized like this. Congratulations to everyone at The Meltdown and NerdMelt Showroom and Meltdown Comics, and, as I wrote in July, you should go there.
