Over the years, TV theme songs have changed immeasurably. Instead of defaulting to those clunky jingle-type tunes for the opening credits, series like Orange Is The New Black and The Affair are upping the musical ante by employing a talented pool of artists to pen their small-screen themes.
We can only imagine how badly some classic shows wish they could go back and rewrite musical history.
And though we already love the original Seinfeld theme song (how many times have you tried to impersonate those groovy bass slaps?), an Australian artist named Ʌbelard has gone through the trouble of bringing the series into the 21st century by giving the theme song a chillwave makeover—and the result is easy like Sunday morning.
We were so inspired by the remix’s synthy goodness, we decided to see if there were more TV theme song upgrades out there and stumbled across the following musical adaptations worth a second listen.
First up, DJ RB Sauce takes a stab at re-envisioning The Office theme, originally performed by the renowned Scrantones.
Next up is an instrumental variation of the Cheers theme overflowing with drum machine magnetism. Not sure about you, but this track totally makes us wanna grab a cold, frosty one.
Finally, let’s celebrate a cover of 2008’s 90210 theme by That Noise. Somewhere, Brandon Walsh is pretending to punch Dylan McKay in the face. Ah, the good ol’ days.
If you could give any TV theme song a modern-day makeover, which series would you choose? Let us know in the comments below. Personally, we’re torn between Full House and Growing Pains.
