The Hunger Games may take the credit for starting the post-apocalyptic/dystopian fiction craze in young adult novels, but there are still plenty that are capable of standing on their own. Despite being overshadowed by Katniss and her adventures, and the similarities between the two franchises, the Divergent Series holds its own unique charm. Now, as we prepare for the release of Mockingjay: Part 2 next week, Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate Films took to Facebook to release the trailer for the third Divergent film; The Divergent Series: Allegiant. Check out the trailer below.
After opening the Divergent Box at the end of the previous film, Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) have discovered that the world outside of the walled-off Chicago is not barren, but instead thriving without them. Now, they must make a break for the outside world in search of a way to save their families and loved ones from the war inside Chicago. They soon discover, though, that the outside world may be a bigger threat than any they have known yet.
Like Harry Potter, Twilight, and The Hunger Games, the final story in the Divergent series will be split into two films. However, instead of naming the films Allegiant: Part 1 and Allegiant: Part 2, the second film will be called The Divergent Series: Ascendant. The Divergent Series: Allegiant will also star Naomi Watts, Zoey Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Ray Stevenson, and Jeff Daniels, and will be in theaters on March 10, 2016.
With the Hunger Games movies wrapping up, it seems the Divergent films and the Maze Runner series will have to battle for young-adult-post-apocalypse supremacy. Which series do you think is the rightful heir to the throne? Let us know in the comments below!
