Age may drive us apart—from each other, from the things we loved when we were young—but no matter how old you are, Chewbacca will always need his Han Solo. (Literally and metaphorically, natch.) And on The Late Late Show Thursday night, James Corden and Billy Eichner put those sentiments into a beautiful song to remind us that the things and people we love are just a phone call away. Oh, and it was also a damn funny parody.
That’s right, the duo did a Halloween parody of Adele‘s new song “Hello”—titled “A Lonely Halloween”—about two old friends trying to remember past Halloweens spent together, and maybe to do it once more.In the video, Corden plays a man in a Chewbacca costume pining for his friend and former trick-or-treating/toilet-papering partner in crime, Han Solo, who now has a family to deal with on Halloween (played by Billy Eichner). What makes it better? The two not only parodied Adele’s song, but also her video. We don’t want to give too much away, so just watch it. (Don’t worry we’ll wait here ’til you’re done.)
This is funny and silly, but—like most of Corden’s best stuff—strangely touching. After all, everyone knows you “can’t ring doorbells on my own.” So true.
To really appreciate the parody, watch Adele’s video for “Hello”. The sincerity of the spoof is what makes it so good.
