February 12th. There will be blood. Guns. F-bombs. And graphic, expertly lit French Unicorn sex.
— Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) April 1, 2015
Well, I don’t remember reading anything about French Unicorn sex in the leaked script that was making the rounds. Plenty of Colossus though; maybe he’ll develop a secondary mutation?
After the initial announcement, Reynolds released an official reaction to the news in an exclusive interview with Mario Lopez. Whatever your feelings are on latter-day A.C. Slater, you definitely don’t want to miss this.
Since this has been a hotly contested topic among fans — on which we discussed in depth on Nerdist News — I sat down for a special video report to talk a little bit about why this is great news for the film.
For those of you not in the know, Deadpool is based on the Marvel Comics antihero of the same name. The fourth-wall breaking assassin-for-hire, a.k.a. Wade Wilson, was given an advanced healing factor after being the subject of an experiment gone awry. With a deranged sense of humor and a penchant for punishment, Deadpool acts like Spider-Man on a killing spree, dropping bodies and quips in equal measure.
Ryan Reynolds is set to star as Deadpool alongside T.J. Miller as Weasel, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, Morena Baccarin as Copycat, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Ed Skrein. The film will be directed by Tim Miller, based on a script by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and is set to hit theaters on February 12, 2016.
