If Ray Parker Jr. taught us anything, it’s that we all now know who it is we need to call when one’s neighborhood experiences a certain spike in strangeness. Despite knowing what to do, we never really took into account the service area of the Ecto 1 and the likelihood the Ghostbusters probably wouldn’t make it out of New York City. Without franchising, that’s already a daunting task for a four person crew. Also, Ray Parker Junior, I DO see something weird that doesn’t look good: your grammar. If you happen to be “ain’t afraid of no ghosts” then that means you’re scared of them all and probably shouldn’t be writing ghost-centric songs. So I don’t believe you when you exclaim that “bustin” makes you feel good.
…It appears I have gotten a bit off topic already.
Luckily for the rest of the world outside of the five boroughs, the AWE me YouTube channel’s DIY Prop Shop and DIY master Dustin McLean show us how to make the iconic ghost trap from the movies. What we learn in the video above is that, with a surprisingly small budget, some household items, and a little know-how, you can make an fantastic trap that would scare the life out of the Scoleri Brothers. That is, if they weren’t already dead.
What’s impressive about the DIY Prop Shop is the re-purposing of household items for the needs of the build. Why go out and spend good money on a heat sink when separating the inner corrugated portion of a piece of cardboard will not only suffice, but also cut weight down considerably from something you may be planning to lug around all day at a convention? Even the things Dustin purchased are all fairly repurposable in future builds. When all is said and done, this Ghostbusters trap replica looks just like the real thing AND appears to be a whole lot more fun than other GB activities. I’m looking at you, Activision’s Ghostbusters video game.
