We may be a few years away from Ben Affleck‘s standalone Batman film, but the writer and director just dropped a very intriguing tease about one of the DC Universe’s best bad guys: Deathstroke the Terminator! Earlier today, Affleck tweeted out some footage of what Deathstroke may look like in the DC Extended Universe, which has raised an intriguing question: Is Deathstroke a previously unannounced villain in Justice League or will he menace the Dark Knight in The Batman? Light up the Batsignal, today’s Nerdist News is on the case!
The Wrap is reporting that Batfleck will take on Deathstroke solo in his own movie, which appears to contradict a report by Birth.Movies.Death that indicated that nearly all of Batman’s villains would be featured in some way. According to Nerdist News host and nobody’s sidekick, Jessica Chobot, it’s still possible that both reports could be true, with Deathstroke leading an army of villains against Bruce Wayne’s alterego.
But why Deathstroke? Despite what the first two seasons of Arrow would have you believe, Slade Wilson’s superpowered mercenary has deeper ties to the Teen Titans than he does to the hero of Gotham City. In a way, Deathstroke would be a better choice for a Nightwing solo movie, given their shared history. However, Deathstroke would give Affleck’s newest cinematic Caped Crusader something that most of his predecessors didn’t get: an adversary who can challenge Batman physically and mentally. If there’s anyone who can give Batman the fight of his life, it’s Deathstroke!
What do you think about Deathstroke as Batman’s next big screen adversary? Let’s discuss in the comment section below!
