I Collect Bugs.

These are some of the unmounted ones. I bought these guys at an annual bug fair that happens at the Museum of Natural History in LA. No, I’m not a serial killer. I’m just fascinated by Class Insecta…….LADIES???

Someday soon I’ll catalog them all and post a slide show.

Could Kylo Ren Really Be Rey's Brother?

  1. Samantha says:

Urgh, reminds me too much of The Collector. Please don’t win the lottery and kidnap a girl in an attempt to force her to love you!

  2. BEHEMOHAWK says:

  3. Rachel says:

Most girls think that this is weird, but honestly… bug collecting is uber sexy to me.

  4. Joe Cuffe says:

    (in creepy Buffalo Bill voice)
it puts the bugs on the tray, and hopes the voices go away….

  5. Deltus says:

500th post. Hey, I think that’s mounted bugs! Let’s see, 100th is paper, 200th is USB drive… yep, I think 500 is mounted bugs. Spooky, huh?

  6. anonymouse says:

you’re a nerd in many ways.

  7. mella22101 says:

I had to do bug collecting in a 6th grade science class. With a killing jar. Our teacher had his collection pinned to the foam ceiling tiles over our desks. Hm.

  8. Chip says:

That collection… I love collections. They make me think “Have I seen any of those before” Answer: maybe one or two but mostly Not. Seeing what I haven’t seen is what my life Is about!

  9. I’m fascinated by Class Labia, but look where that got me. You’ve got some sort of cool ass bug fetish and you’ve got pussy stumbling all over you. It’s just not a fair world sometimes.

You’ve got a sweet ass collection there. My sister works for the MN mosquito control and she’s single, perhaps I can give you her number? She’s all intellectual like you are.

    Great post!

  10. Dan says:

    Well…every nerd needs a collection.

  11. those white beetles are awesome.

  12. Meg says:

lol at the ladies comment. all the way. reminds me of my sixth grade mandatory bug collection that turned out not to be as bad as i thought it would be. go you!

  13. Katie-san says:

    Four words, Chris:
    A we so me!

  14. Kat says:

Butterflies terrify me (I think it’s the erratic and unpredictable flight patterns, like they could be all up in your shit getting their wingdust in your face without warning). However those blue ones are neat, specifically the white, black and blue with the spiky tips.

  15. algonacchick says:

Nice collection, Chris! Yeah, bugs are far less creepy when they’re dead. LOL! Hey, I bet you got a kick out of that deleted scene from UHF where Philo’s suitcase full of rare entomology specimens goes missing, only to be found by the bad guys. So great! Congrats on your 500th tweet!

  16. Michael says:

If you do another show in Colorado, you should check out the bug museum.

  17. At least you don’t randomly find ants on the side walk and glue them to your coffee table. That would be pretty strange.

  18. eric says:

    It puts the lotion on?

  19. Brittany says:

I appreciate you making being nerdy cool again. I thought i was doomed.

  20. resisting the urge to spray raid onto my screen right now. but i’m not judging!

  21. Barny Boo says:

**Insecta. I thought of something else in the middle of typing that word. Then to top it all off I see that we’ve already discussed misspellings. Le sigh.

  22. Barny Boo says:

I am a lady, and I am taking entomology next semester, thus interest in Insectovora and other arthropods… such as my white whale the House “JESUSFUCKINGCHRIST” Centipede… does constitute a pick-up line for me.

I hope my bug box turns out this nice looking.

I can’t make a nice pretty hyperlink for house “children we are moving far away” centipedes without a button to do so, so just Google image it on your own. ‘Specially if you’ve been looking for motivation to give never eating ever again a try!

  23. Chris Hardwick says:

Duly noted and corrected. Sorry! I’m an insectophile not an entomologist.

And hey, this is my 500th post! That means something I think!

  24. Gina says:

I find this incredibly attractive. Too bad I’m married…

  25. emily says:

Can you send a bug-loving, video-game playing nerdy guy friend down to Austin for me? Please?

  26. DudelRok says:

I’d have fossils if I’d the money. Dinosaurs and bones always made me curious, I’m just don’t have the energy to dig them up, myself.

    That’s really cool.

  27. i don’t think this helps your “nerd cred” but it does make you more “Buffallo Bill” like. Just saying.

  28. ml says:

And of course I mistype that: class Insecta

  29. ml says:

    *nerdrage* Class Insectae

  30. Mike says:

Well, hopefully you won’t go on a insecticidal killing spree.

But in all honesty, that is seriously awesome. Those butterflies are truly beautiful.

  31. Julia says:

That big red mantis-looking bastard? SEXXXY.

  32. Patrick H. says:

I was working at a supermarket one and I found an insect that was very interesting. It was plump as big as your fist, and had wings. It was the same color and texture as a banana, so I assume it came in on one of those crates. The legs came down to black points. Wish I knew what it was.

  33. Dave says:

So you’re saying that this is your nerdversion of Pokemon….

  34. Keri says:

You would love the collection they have at the Museum of natural history in Boston MA. It is right around Harvard so you know the Nerd Factor is pretty high there. I’ll admit bugs give me the crawlies but I don’t mind much if they are dead which I guess is a little morbid. In my defense my name does mean ‘dark’ and that pretty much defines me in a nutshell.

  35. Angela says:

Oh man. I’d probably pee myself if I saw any of those “in the wild”. But dead and mounted: pretty!

  36. Joy says:

The butterflies are awesome. Ever go to The Pavilion Of Wing at the Natural History Museum in L.A. in the spring? Butterflies flying everywhere. it rocks.

  37. Val says:

Any self-respecting nerd-girl should be turned on by the bug collection!

  38. Alright…that’s hot. If you had a collection of jumping spiders I might fly on out to L.A. and marry you right now!

  39. An Entomologist says:

You’re not a real nerd until you collect them yourself.

..Not to mention, Insecta is a Class, not a Kingdom. Insects are in the Kingdom Animalia, Phylum Arthropoda.

    I like you anyway.

  40. CraftyShanna says:

Do you have many ants? I have some cool ones from an ant workshop I went to. They are all mounted and official-like too. 🙂

    That B&W beetle is awesome!

  41. manicsunshine87 says:

And I thought you wouldn’t have them classified… I’m so proud!

  42. coloween says:

  43. Dickery says:

Everybody knows that insects are just tiny alien robots sent here to monitor earth and eventually kill all humans.

  44. @DubMcKnightGrl says:

Love it! I used to collect butterflies when I was little. :-p

  45. Kaileigh says:

    NICE. Love the blue butterflies!

  46. @BeauRyan says:

Get laid much? join the club!

  47. Maggie T. says:

Please marry me, Chris. I love you and your nerdiness.

  48. Lilikka says:

Bugs look so neat like this, but the thought of them alive and crawling/flying makes my skin crawl D:

  49. HollywoodBob says:

You sir! Have my undying nerd respect.

  50. Dan says:

it’s alright. i’m planning on doing that with all my t-shirts. catalogging them. not quite as nerdy, but weird all the same.
