“He’s a Radical Rat” vs. “Thunder, Thunder!”

Thundercats is coming back via Cartoon Network shortly, and as a result, there are some new toys. Generally it looks fairly bad ass, but ignore for a second that someone high up decided to mass-produce a Snarf toy. Snarf! (Remember Snarf-ra? Those were the days.)

Anyway, toys are cool and all, but any reference of Thundercats should immediately make you think of their theme song:

Is it the greatest children’s show theme song ever? Probably not, although some may argue that.

Other contenders include:

… and everyone’s likely winner:

What do you have? Little Duck Tales action? Transformers? Pinky and the Brain? Hit us up in the comments.

(Editor’s note: What? No Simpsons? Do Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies count? The Flintstones (second version with lyrics)? )

  1. Jirky says:

Anyone remember M.A.S.K.? I used to love that show when I was a kid. The theme is just dripping with awesomely 80’s cheesiness!

  2. BigNiceJohn says:

A sentimental favourite of mine has to be Denver the Last Dinosaur.

  3. Lizzie says:

Power Rangers, hands down. You don’t even have to like the show to like that riff.

  4. Chill S says:

    The Real Ghostbusters!!

  5. LesserBeing says:

Crap! I now realize why i can be so forgetful, my head is full of theme songs. Every show’s song mentioned in the comment thread is in my brain, even shows I don’t really remember watching. I think I’m going with Batman:TAS ftw, the strings at the begining used to make me so happy as a kid, such a good show

  6. Kurt says:

    Fail….. here’s the link:

  7. Kurt says:

I would agree that Thundercats was my most memorable theme song from my youth, but remember this one:

  8. Thomas says:

I would say Thundercats wins, not least because the themesong was written by James Lipton.

  9. Parge says:

Yeah, those old shows are great. But it’s the shows my kids watch that give me brain bugs when I’m at work. I sing the theme to My Friend Rabbit whenever the mood hits me. It’s swingaliciously dixielandtastic!

  10. Ryan says:

Google the writer of the Thundercats theme song. Then you will understand why it wins.

  11. Hurricane Ditka says:

I agree with Wade. I like the Fosters theme. (Although it is def not bad ass… Unless you think a Kazoo is bad ass.)

  12. Wade says:

It looks fairly “bad ass”? HAHAHAHAHAHA That is the saddest thing I have ever read on this site.

Come on, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends is the best kids show theme. Even though it lacks the ridiculous cheesy lyrics.

  13. MTSmitty says:

    Gummy Bears!!!!
High adventure that’s beyond compare…Enough said.

    Great, Space, Coaster

  15. Bradford says:

Damn kids! It goes Fat Albert, Groovie Goolies, and then either Scooby Doo (original) or Archie. Actually, you can swap the last three in any order as long you start off with Fat Albert.

  16. Dan says:

“Go go power rangers, you mighty morphin’ power rangers!”

  17. Livius says:

    ^Everything above me, plus Tailspin

  18. Louis O'Raga says:

    Heh. What about Darkwing Duck?
    It’s so hardcore!

  19. Summer says:

I love the Tiny Toons theme

  20. Jenn Zuko says:

    But Jem is truly outrageous!

  21. Eric G says:

Definitely Thundercats is one of the greatest but nothing gets me revved up and nostalgic like the X-Men and Power Rangers themes.

  22. Bri says:

I recently made a post about my top 5 TV Show theme songs. My top two are X-Men & Batman: The Animated Series. I guess this means I prefer instrumental cartoon theme songs…

  23. Norvick says:

Damn it, I meant to The Mighty Orbots. Stupid no embed.

  24. Norvick says:

Even though the show wasn’t great, I used to love the theme on Saturday Mornings. It was such a precursor to YOU GOT THE TOUCH…

  25. Adam says:

TMNT is usually always going to win.

Might I suggest two lesser known shows that had awesome theme songs?
