The German language is full of words that perfectly describe an otherwise ineffable feeling. Case in point: Backpfeifengesicht, a noun referring to a face that demands to be punched, or kummerspeck, a noun referring to the excess weight gained from emotional overeating, which literally translates to “grief bacon.” Comparatively, the English language is bereft of such useful portmanteaus, which is why I’m grateful that Chris Hardwick has stepped up to the plate with his latest stand-up comedy special, Funcomfortable, which airs this Saturday, April 30 at 10PM ET/PT on Comedy Central.
Just let that word roll around in your mouth for a moment. It describes that perfect blend of things that simultaneously make us laugh and make us squirm on a cellular level. It’s a delicate tightrope to walk, and one that Hardwick expertly toes in his new special. With “the energy of SpongeBob dipped in cocaine water,” Hardwick covers a wealth of ground, including how he first discovered where babies come from, how uniquely terrible music was in the ’90s, and how inappropriate humor helped him cope with the loss of his father. It’s raw, it’s honest, it’s deeply funny, and you can watch it on Saturday night at 10PM ET/PT. You can also watch the uncensored version at midnight on Sunday, May 1 at 11PM ET/PT.
But you don’t have to wait long to kick off the Chris-filled fun(comfort). From tonight at midnight through Sunday, May 1, Comedy Central is kicking off Chris Hardwick’s Funcomfortable Weekend, an entire weekend full of hand-picked content curated by Hardwick himself. It will also feature special interstitials hosted by Hardwick to give you the skinny on exactly what you’ll be watching and why.
