HELLO NEIGHBOR! Looks Like the Scariest Video Game of All Time

If you grew up in the suburbs and then moved to the big city when you got older, you would likely agree that, while the city might wear its crimes and dangers on its sleeve, the ‘burbs can feel altogether more sinister, since it’s hiding behind a facade of normality. I certainly had that neighbor who you rarely saw, was never very friendly, and you were sure was up to something behind the seemingly peaceful doors of their bright white and yellow house. The new video game Hello, Neighbor! looks to prey upon those small town fears and dredge up a whole lot more.

The game comes courtesy of tinyBuild, who assert that Hello, Neighbor! is their most ambitious outing yet. Your goal is to sneak into your neighbor’s house and find clues that will get you closer to finding out what he’s hiding in his basement (something nefarious, surely). Of course, you need to try not to be seen or, failing that, you need to distract him long enough to get to your objective. Because if he gets you…well, just watch the end of the trailer above.

Just watching the video had us here in the Nerdist offices feeling icky and tense. And what’s even scarier is the promise by tinyBuild that the game will have 10+ hours of play, and that your neighbor will be an ever-learning A.I. that will eventually get to predict your movements and set up booby traps for you throughout his house. You’re going to have to be really, really smart, fast, and stealthy to not turn in to your neighbor’s next basement decoration. Tom Waits had the right idea about weird neighbors.

Hello, Neighbor! will be available on Steam summer of next year, and you can find out more information on the game right here.

Being chased is maybe the most frightening thing we can think of, so Hello, Neighbor! is sure to give us a fair amount of panic. Let us know how you’ll fare in the comments below!
