Happily ever after might be a staple of fairy tales, but they don’t necessarily happen in the world of Harry Potter. Appearing at Universal Orlando’s A Celebration of Harry Potter event, Rupert Grint, a.k.a. Ron Weasley, told The Huffington Post he thinks Ron and Hermione’s marriage wouldn’t have lasting power. “I would expect Ron has probably divorced Hermione already. I don’t think that relationship would have done very well,” Grint said.
Actually though, I don’t disagree: their relationship was a surprise to me. Opposites attract and all, but I don’t think the ambitious Hermione would have tolerated Ron for long. He’s loyal and kind, sure, but not what I’d call a go-getter.
Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood), Matt Lewis (Neville Longbottom), and Katie Leung (Cho Chang) were also present, and Lynch offered an alternate take. She said, “Don’t say divorced. Say they’ve split up. They can reconcile.” While Ron and Hermione are working things out, the interviewer suggests Ron might try Tinder but that he may not do so well. Lewis chimed in and painted a sad portrait of Ron “living in a one-bedroom studio apartment all alone, doing nothing.” (Awww!) I do think the measure of fame Ron must have in the wizarding world would likely help him with the ladies—but no one would be as amazing as Hermione Granger.
Lynch imagined a much happier future for Luna: “I think Luna would have an adventure documentary series. She becomes a naturalist, and I think she’d travel the world and have a show. I could be a wildlife narrator.” Um, can we have that spinoff, J.K. Rowling? Pretty please?
