Grimes began working on the follow-up to her 2012 album Visions, but that apparently didn’t go so well since she decided to scrap all the songs she had been working on, saying, “It sucked, so I threw it out and started again.” That decision doesn’t seem to have set her back too much, since she has since announced a new album called Art Angels, and today, she revealed some tasty new information about the record.
Grimes shared two new songs in the form of a joint music video, a visual spectacle in two acts titled “Flesh without Blood/Life in the Vivid Dream”. “Flesh Without Blood” is an upbeat pop tune with a propulsive beat, while “Life in the Vivid Dream” is somber and perhaps more of an interlude.
The same set of characters star in both acts of the video: there’s Grimes dressed like a Hunger Games government official/ Mary Antoinette while playing badminton at an outdoor basketball court, and Grimes as a bedroom-bound angel jumping on a bed of dollar bills, among others. Per the credits, the characters are named “LV., Roccoco Basilisk, Kill V. Maim, and Skreechy Bat.”
Grimes wrote, directed, edited, colored, and art-directed the video herself, while her brother Mac Boucher was the cinematographer and creative consultant.
Grimes also announced that Art Angels will be available digitally on November 6, followed by a physical release on December 11. Check out the tracklist below.
