Truly, Funko, the only appropriate words right now are—you guessed it—”Thank you for being a friend.” Because when it comes to New York Comic Con, we do indeed see that the biggest gift is from you. By that we mean these Golden Girls and The Dark Crystal figures.
Following up on the success of The Dark Crystal‘s Landstrider and Jen as San Diego Comic-Con exclusives, we get arguably the coolest beast in the entire movie, the crustacean-like Garthim, legendarily inspired by a plate of discarded lobster shells. Packed in with it (Him? Her? Do Garthim even have a traditional gender?) is the fairy-wings variant of Kira, along with her stalwart pet/bodyguard Fizzgig.
As intimidating as the Garthim is, though, I don’t know if it could truly hold a candle to an even tougher foe in Funko’s other action figure box set. Tart-tongued matriarch Sophia Petrillo could make even the bravest heroine humble, but she comes with the rest of the Golden Girls to keep her in check: Blanche, Rose, and Dorothy may never have gotten that LEGO set everyone wanted, but now you can reenact their banter about men, mothers, and St. Olaf’s to your heart’s content. Like the Game of Thrones Reaction figures, these even appear to have actress likeness rights.
These figure sets are part of just the first wave of NYCC exclusives from Funko; a wave that also includes new Twilight and Scott Pilgrim Pop vinyls. But before you get too concerned that they’ll be impossible to obtain, consider this: the Landstrider and Jen set has been showing up at Toys R Us lately, and most exclusive Pop Vinyls show up at Hot Topic sooner or later.
In other words, if you can’t make it to New York, you may not even have to travel ’round the world and back again.
Are these toys the golden gift you’ve been waiting for? Let’ stalk about them in comments.
