The line between reality and fiction seems to be thin one these days, and are especially so when talking about films. Actors who portray larger-than-life heroes are often expected to be that way all the time, lest they let down their adoring public. This is right at the heart of Alejandro González Iñárritu’s new film Birdman (or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), in which a former superhero actor, once on the top of the world, begins to bleed his onscreen life with his real one as he attempts to put up a very non-Birdman type of play in New York City. Faced with being a has-been forever, this play might be his last hope to fly again.
The film stars Michael Keaton (who knows a thing or two about being a former big screen superhero… You know what I’m talking about), Edward Norton, Emma Stone, Zach Galifianakis and is Iñárritu’s most stylized movie to date and his first foray into comedy of any sort.
