It’s been awhile since Jason Momoa was announced as appearing as Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and now director Zack Snyder has finally revealed what the King of the Seven Seas is going to look like in the DC cinematic universe. The director unveiled the first picture of Momoa as the Atlantean king on Twitter. So without further ado, here’s our first look at the first film version of Arthur Curry.

Clearly Snyder was inspired more by the 1990’s Peter David Aquaman look, the period in which he didn’t have his signature orange shirt, but instead wore a form of armored shoulder pads that showed off his rippling chest (if you’re going to get someone to play Aquaman with the body of Jason Momoa, you don’t really wanna cover that up.) Also, the long hair and the beard is Aquaman’s signature ’90s look. Of course, the biggest difference here is that Momoa is clearly not blonde, but he appears to have blonde streaks in his hair as a nod to his comic book origins.
After making his big screen debut in Batman v. Superman, Aquaman is going to be in Justice League Part One (Nov. 17, 2017) before starring in his own solo flick, appropriately enough called Aquaman on July 27, 2018, and then regrouping with his Super Friends in Justice League Part Two, set for June 14th, 2019.
