Listen to Gerard Way’s New Christmas Love Song

Gerard Way is a man of many talents–from his tenure as the king of emo kids in My Chemical Romance to a spectacular comics career that saw him helm the Young Animal imprint, co-create Into the Spider-Verse star Peni Parker SP//dr, and start beloved creator owned series (and upcoming Netflix show) Umbrella Academy. If you’ve missed the magic of his musical career, you’re going to be very happy because he’s released a new track for the holiday season, “Dasher.”

“Dasher” is a brilliantly bleak but also sweet Christmas tune.Unlike Way’s last release on YouTube,  a surf-rock style Halloween song titled “Baby You’re a Haunted House,” this festive ditty goes back to his emo roots and features the talents of the Regrettes lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Lydia Night. The musical prodigy performs a spoken word interlude in the middle of the track that will surely put you all the way into your feelings. According to a quote from Alt-Press, Way said the song “is about a girl who falls in love with a reindeer… The reindeer thinks she’s pretty great too. They have adventures, they talk about life. The song is also about the magic sometimes hidden in the mundane.â€We’ve listened to “Dasher” about 200 times already, and yes, it is just as weird and magical as that description makes it sound. So, comb your hair to the side, apply your best black eyeliner, play this as loudly as you can to have a very emo Christmas!
