In case you don’t have young children or possess the watching habits of young children, Pancake Mountain is the kewlest kids show on television. Not only is the PBS series utterly adorable, but it also boasts a pretty impressive roster of musical guest stars, like The White Stripes, Bright Eyes, and Arcade Fire.
Most recently, Gerard Way stopped by the set to play anchor on the show’s news segment called “Weekend Pancake Report,” where he had a hard time pronouncing the words “butter batter” and questioned whether pancakes have become too commercial.
Also featured in the clip is Way’s brother-in-law and fellow musician Jimmy Euringer (aka Jimmy Urine of Mindless Self Indulgence), who performs the American standard “Daisy Bell” with his better half (and former Morningwood singer) Chantal Claret.
Like we mentioned earlier, having the former My Chemical Romance frontman on the show is hardly the first time a bitchin’ band member took the time to climb Pancake Mountain.
In fact, it seems only appropriate we should highlight some of our favorite musical appearances from the series’ 10-year history, starting with a young and fresh-faced Katy Perry singing a duet about spiders with star Rufus Leaking.
We also loved when Tegan And Sara performed “Back In Your Head” amidst an audience of pogoing tweens back in 2008.
Finally, who could forget that time Brode Dalle (Distillers, Spinnerette) gave a punk-rock makeover to the series’ theme song.
Even if you’re allergic to gluten, you can still enjoy Pancake Mountain.
