Do you ever have moments as a fan when you feel like you can’t even? Me too. Frequently. It happened this morning when new photos were released from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. A new web series called i can’t even captures that excited feeling of fandom in a series of sketches about two roommates, Em (Louise Cox) and Lex (Tiana Hogben). The friends have different personalities, but they’re both fangirls obsessed with franchises such as Star Wars, The Hunger Games, and Harry Potter. The amusing and adorable series resonates with me because the conversations between Em and Lex are just the kind of conversations I have with my friends and roomies.
I can’t even was created by twin sisters Hayley and Alyce Adams with Alyce writing and Hayley producing. Alyce said the idea for the web series came from spending too much time on Tumblr. “They say to write what you know, and making bad sexual puns about Peeta from The Hunger Games is literally something that has happened to us,” she explained. “The life of a nerd can furnish some crazy stories, and all we did was heighten some of the situations.”
Coincidentally, my favorite of episodes is called “Peeta Bread.” It’s full of euphemisms about bread (the best kind of euphemisms), and Lex jokes about attacking someone dressed like Joffrey. It had me cracking up.
Catch up on the entire web series at YouTube and then let me know what you think. Feel free to share your thoughts about bread (and other punnery) in the comments.
