How quickly time flies when you’re having fun. Another Thursday has sped right by, meaning the promise of free time is upon us come this weekend. Hopefully you take advantage of the time to play through many of the fantastic releases we saw this week. I will take every opportunity to get gold in as many challenges as possible in the Mega Man Legacy Collection. As soul crushing as some of these challenges have been, nothing beats the complete rush of beating a previous best time. Before you plan for the weekend let’s get to the news. In today’s Gaming Daily: the Pokémon intro was recreated in GTA V, Michael Fassbender looks brilliant in assassin’s garb, EA releases concept art of the Star Wars Battlefront: Battle of Jakku DLC, Rainbow Mika joins the cast of Street Fighter V, and a Shovel Knight amiibo has been spotted.
Pokémon intro recreated in GTA V.
There are few things in this world I love more than the original Pokémon games and television show. It ranks second only to Dragon Ball Z–but that’s it. So of course, I was elated when this recreation of the Pokémon intro in GTA V surfaced, featuring Trevor in the role of the never-aging Ash Ketchum. The video was created by YouTube user Merfish. Peep it at the top of the page.
It’s absolutely fantastic in every imaginable way. Watching Michael play the role of Pikachu is also hilarious. You can also watch the side-by-side video comparison (above). This year has seen an explosion of GTA V videos, and it’s been great watching people’s imaginations produce all sorts of wacky recreations. Keep it up GTA community.
Michael Fassbender is looking good in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed film.
I’m going to be completely honest here, I have very little faith in film adaptations of video games. Obviously, the same sentiment is shared by many thanks to abominations like the Super Mario Bros. film. When I heard about Assassin’s Creed being turned into a film, a lifted eyebrow was triggered. Not that it can’t be good, but the games have a hard enough time keeping the story comprehensible, so hopes weren’t too high. That was until today. An image of Michael Fassbender wearing the full assassin’s garb was released, and it actually looks excellent. All the crucial details are there. With the film due to hit theaters late next year, more footage and images will be shared to give us a better understanding of what to expect. At least it looks like they got the assassin’s look down, plus Fassbender is extremely talented.
First look at the pre-order DLC for Star Wars: Battlefront.
Here’s your first look at the Battle of Jakku DLC for Star Wars: Battlefront, in the form of two pieces of concept art. You’ll be able to nab this content a week before everyone else by taking the pre-order plunge. The battle will take place on Jakku, which will have a significant role in Star Wars: Episode VII. We would have liked a gameplay video of some sort, but these will have to do until then.
Here’s a little backstory for the content, provided by EA:
Taking place in the aftermath of the Rebel victory in the Battle of Endor, players will experience the events that created the massive, battle-scarred landscape of Jakku shown in Star Wars™: The Force Awakens™.
In the artwork above, a Star Destroyer has crash landed, and from the belly of this battle-scarred metal giant, a myriad of Imperial ground troops have evacuated and engaged with Rebel troops, who are also strangers to this desert planet.
The art is fantastic, but how it translates into a fluid shooter map has yet to be seen. Pre-order incentives have gotten out of hand recently, at least this one will be available to everyone a week after its early release.
Rainbow Mika joins the Street Fighter V roster.
The ever growing cast of Street Fighter V added another familiar face to the ranks today. Say hello to Rainbow Mika. Peter Rosas made the full reveal on the Playstation Blog, and R. Mika is looking sleeker than ever before. Her last appearance dates back to 1998’s Street Fighter Alpha 3. A short video was also released, showing off her impressive moves. Though many aren’t fond of the overly sexualized look, it’s at least true to her original design. Take a gander at the video above.
Shovel Knight amiibo spotted.
After much clamoring, it looks like Nintendo has finally listened to their fans, and will be making an amiibo figurine of Shovel Knight. The news comes from a tweet by UK retailer Game, which has since been deleted. According to the post, the NFC enabled figurine will launch November 27 in the UK. The listing also suggests that Yacht Club Games will be creating more products, probably more games since a sequel to Shovel Knight makes too much sense.
This looks legit, and is a completely different model than the one created by fans. The deletion of the Tweet also suggests the retailer wasn’t supposed to make the announcement this early.
Despite his appearance on basically every current console, Shovel Knight’s humble beginnings were on Nintendo consoles. Thus, the little blue shoveler is synonymous with the Big N, making it a no brainer to turn this platforming beast into an amiibo. Could this also be a prelude to Shovel Knight joining the Super Smash Bros. cast as a downloadable character? Rumors already suggest it’s indeed happening, with an announcement coming this weekend.

That’s it for today, folks. Personally, I can’t wait to get my hands on the Shovel Knight amiibo. Hopefully he does join the Super Smash Bros. cast. Do you have an amiibo obsession? How many are already in your collection? Let us know in the comments section below.
