Gaming Daily: Platinum Games’ SCALEBOUND Delayed Until 2017

It’s been two weeks since we last did one of these posts, and during that time off, we had plenty of time to catch up on our gaming backlog. I know I used that time to finally trek through the treacherous Commonwealth of Fallout 4. As far as Mondays go, the first one back has been pretty hectic in the realm of gaming news. Since it’s surely a lot to take in, we’re here to keep you informed and up to date on some of the day’s hot topics.

In today’s Gaming Daily, Platinum Games’ Xbox One exclusive, Scalebound, has been delayed, Omega Force’s Attack on Titan game will include new story content penned by Hajime Isayama, Sony released a video to get fans pumped for 20 PS4 exclusives that are slated for 2016 release, there’s a rumor floating around that Ubisoft’s next Assassin’s Creed game is going to be set in Egypt, there are a ton of freebies coming to Destiny this week, and Oculus Rift pre-orders will be going live this week.

Scalebound’s release date has been pushed back to 2017.

Well, this is disappointing. Platinum Games’ dragon-filled Action-RPG, Scalebound–which was originally slated for a Q2 2016 release– won’t be hitting shelves until 2017. The developer revealed to the news in an open letter to the fans earlier today, on their official website. Though development has been “going well,” and the folks working on the title are “happy with how it’s coming together,” it looks like they need more time to work on the massive game.

“In order to deliver on our ambitious vision and ensure that Scalebound lives up to expectations, we will be launching the game in 2017. This will give us the time needed to bring to life all the innovative features and thrilling gameplay experiences that we have planned. We know you’re excited to see more and thank you for your patience. Scalebound is a truly special project that’s been several years in the making, and we are very proud and inspired by all the work our team has done so far,” the official statement read

While this is unfortunate, the studio promises to give fans a closer look at it later this year. It’s true, Platinum’s had a few hit or miss titles, but it’s also released great selections like Bayonetta (1 & 2), Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and this year’s Transformers: Devastation. They’re also releasing Star Fox Zero this month, so they have a lot on their plate. Let’s hope Scalebound is worth the wait.

Attack on Titan Image

Omega Force’s Attack on Titan to include new story material.

According to a recent interview that producer Hisashi Koinuma and director Tomoyuki Kitamuta did with Famitsu, translated by Gematsu) Omega Force’s upcoming Attack on Titan game will feature brand new story content written by Hajime Isayama. If that name sounds familiar, that’s because he’s the creator of the franchise. On top of that, the studio also announced all 10 of the game’s playable characters, which includes: Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Krista, Sasha, Connie, Jean, Levi, Hange, and Erwin. Pick up free loot in Destiny this week.

The holidays may have come and gone, but It looks like Bungie is still in the spirit of giving. In their year-end Destiny update–which they posted a couple of weeks ago– they revealed that they’ll be making several goodies available for free this week.

If you head to the tower on January 7th, the post-master will have 15 Strange Coins, and 15 Motes of Light waiting for you. Though Motes of Light don’t really get you much these days, the Strange Coins are definitely welcome. I know I’ll be paying my good buddy Xur a visit when he arrives.

If those goodies aren’t enough for you, the developer will also be throwing in a yet-to-be revealed emblem as long as you login to the game and complete a playable activity some time between January 7-10. Qualified Guardians will be rewarded with the exclusive on January 12.

Are you planning on returning?

Assassins Creed Victory image 05072015

The next entry in the Assassin’s Creed series might be set in Egypt.

If I remember correctly, we’ve heard the Egypt-set rumor before, but it looks like it might be for real this time. Rumors about Ubisoft’s next entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchise began circulating earlier this morning, culminating in Kotaku’s report that they appear to be true, according to their sources. On top of that, it looks like the title, which is rumored to be titled Empire, won’t be releasing this year–which deviates from AC’s annualized release schedule.

Many are speculating that the studio will instead be releasing a sequel to Watch Dogs. I don’t know how badly I’d want that, but giving the AC series a much-needed break is a great idea. Though I loved Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, it ended up feeling like more of the same. Sure, the characters were fun, and the new additions made it run a bit smoother, but there wasn’t enough change to alleviate the fatigue.

Pre-orders for the Oculus Rift open this week.

Let the VR battle begin! Oculus took to their blog early this morning to announce that fans will be able to pre-order the Rift starting January 6 at 8 AM PST. While we don’t know much at the moment, we do know that the device will come bundled with copies of both Playful’s Lucky’s Tale, and CCP Games’ Eve: Valkyrie. According to the post, Oculus will fill us in on additional details on Wednesday.

Are you planning on pre-ordering? Or are you going to wait and see how the system does once it’s out in the wild?
