GAME OF THRONES’ Tywin Lannister Rises from the Grave in the DRACULA UNTOLD Trailer

If you’re already missing Charles Dance’s performance as Tywin Lannister in HBO’s Game of Thrones, you have reason to rejoice — you’ll have a chance to see the actor on screen again even before you see your other GOT favorites return in the show’s fifth season. Dance plays the ages-old vampire who sires Dracula himself, played by Luke Evans, in Universal’s Dracula Untold (due out in theaters on October 17th). In this action-oriented/historical-fiction interpretation of the Dracula legend (directed by Gary Shore), the vampire count begins his career as the real-world figure Vlad Tepes, who seeks out Dance’s character in order to become a vamp and save his family and people from his enemy Mehmed, played by Need for Speed‘s Dominic Cooper.

Evans is an underrated actor who brought just the right amount of world-weariness to last year’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, so I’m curious to see what he’ll do with this role, even if his Dracula is vastly different from the one created by Bram Stoker and made famous by actors Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee. (The Vlad character did make his way into Francis Coppola’s gorgeous though uneven Bram Stoker’s Dracula.) And there are few working actors with as much gravitas as Dance, as all Game of Thrones fans know… Here’s the trailer featuring Dracula Untold‘s principal players, and utilizing Lourdes’ cover of Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” that she recorded for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

  1. I hate this already. Why even call it Dracula?

    • hannah says:

Because in the original legend of Dracula, as Bram Stoker wrote it, “Vlad III is revered as a folk hero by Romanians for driving off the invading Ottoman Turks, of which his impaled victims are said to have included as many as 100,000.” It’s missing the impaling, the the story’s origins are still essentially there.

That’s gonna be a kick ass movie !!
