Fox Announces Plan for SIMPSONS/FAMILY GUY Crossover This Fall

Fox Announces Plan for SIMPSONS/FAMILY GUY Crossover This Fall

Fox has aired both The Simpsons and Family Guy together for over a decade as two of Fox’s longest running, most popular animated shows ever. Yet, the two have never joined up for a crossover episode. In fact, an actual Simpsons/Family Guy crossover episode, as an idea, has been, at best, an off-hand joke referencing how unlikely something is. Objectively, this seems even more unlikely as there are plenty of similarities between both shows, and The Simpsons have been the lead-in for Family Guy ever since Family Guy‘s premiere after the 1999 Super Bowl. Subjectively, many fans keep their love of both mutually exclusive.

Yet, Fox’s Kevin Reilly just announced at Fox’s Upfront presentation that, in September of this year, an hour long episode entitled Simpsons Guy will air.

Since The Simpsons and Family Guy currently air back-to-back on Sundays, the hour long special episode will serve as the entire crossover episode. Most TV series crossovers involved two episodes being traded by having one show’s cast on the other’s show and vice versa. The closest thing to a crossover between The Simpsons and Family Guy up until now didn’t involve the participation of either show. Comedy Central’s South Park did a brilliant send-up of Family Guy in two episodes entitled “Cartoon Wars”, the second part of which featured a character resembling Bart Simpson back in 2006.

Will you be tuning in to the Simpsons/Family Guy crossover? Let us know in the comments.

  1. Wiziliz says:

A crossover of either of these shows and South Park couldn’t happen and be canon because it’d result in the cast of The Simpsons/Family Guy dead.

  16. Johnny says:

Boooo….The Simpson’s SUCK….They’re Not even In The Same Category Of Humor As Family Guy.

    • Davie Boy says:

I agree. 1 cartoon is more designed & targeted at adults and the other for kids. The humor in Family Guy is more “Adult Centered”. Not so with the Simpson’s. Family Guy rocks….

      • Bob says:

Except The Simpsons isn’t a kid’s show either, and they both have their strong points.

  20. Mike says:

This can only be great! Family Guy (and American Dad) have been nailing it this year and, although many haven’t been paying attention lately, the Simpsons has been finding it’s groove again for the last couple of years as well. BTW,is anyone else happy that Cleveland took that new clan of his back to Spooner St.? FG just got much deeper. It’s a truly wonderful time to be a    fan :)

  21. Cozmo d says:

We will be watching as we have every Sunday sin e the beginning…

  22. Jenny says:

I think they should bring Family Guy and American Dad together.

  27. jessica says:

it’s going to be interesting to see how they decide to merge these two shows. the comedy for each is entirely different. if they do it right it will be awesome. but it does have a lot of room to epically fail sadly

  28. angelica says:

hell yeah can’t wait now i wish the summer was gone already so i can watch it …make it great guys !!!

  29. steven says:

a hell yeah!! this is going to be one crazy episode and i just cant wait!

  30. Roger says:

    No thanks!  Family Guy sucks!

    • troy holl says:

do not put the obsolete simpsons with the evolving family guy. thats just disgusting

      • It truly shocks me to think people actually watch the Simpsons.

      • SJ says:

What is the evolution?  All they do is make Stewie’s character more and more gay every year and try to up the amount of blood and violence that they can fit in the episode.  Occasionally they couple that with seeing how long they can throw in a gag that goes on longer than it needs to (“Conway Twitty everybody….”), which the only humor in it is that they are making fun of the fans for putting up with watching the filler.

  31. Actually, I’ve been hearing about this for maybe a year now as being planned and in production.I think now it just has a air date.

    • Ben says:

This. They said the description already too. Homer and Peter argue over duff/pawtucket, stewie learns pranks from Brian, and Lisa tries to find what meg is “good at”.

      • Gonna assume you meant Bart when you said “Brian.”  That said, I really hope that you’re making that whole thing up, because if that’s the episode, then it’s retarded.
