Forest Whitaker is reportedly in negotiations to play a role in Star Wars: Rogue One, although the details of who Whitaker will portray are currently unknown. Whitaker won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in The Last King of Scotland, and he has appeared in numerous films and TV series including Platoon, Bird, Panic Room, The Shield, and Les Daniels’ The Butler.
Whitaker also has several genre projects to his credit, including his stint as the host of the most recent revival of The Twilight Zone, in addition to leading roles in Repo Men, Species, Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai, and Battlefield Earth. In fact, Whitaker appears to be the only actor from Battlefield Earth to subsequently land a role in the Star Wars franchise!
Very little is currently known about Star Wars: Rogue One aside from the premise. The movie will take place shortly before Star Wars Episode IV as a group of Rebels attempt to steal the plans for the Death Star. Felicity Jones has been confirmed as the lead character in Rogue One, with Riz Ahmed, Diego Luna and Ben Mendelsohn also reported to be in the movie.
Recently, a report claimed that Star Wars: Rogue One director Gareth Edwards will use the Arri Alexa 65 6K camera during production of the movie, which is one of the most advanced digital cameras available. Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: Episode VIII will both use film, instead of digital cameras.
Star Wars: Rogue One will be released on December 16, 2016.
