For Your Friday: A Trip Through The Universe

So you don’t have a camera with 10,000,000,000,000,000x zoom. That’s okay. Just take a series of pictures from the Advanced Camera for Surveys on the Hubble telescope and stick ’em together. The result is a gorgeous trip through the cosmos to the Lagoon Nebula, five thousand light-years away. It feels like you’re flying through space. Like a bird. A space bird.

*points at Andy and taps nose*

  2. @ Scoot: So, what you’re saying is…it’s a trap?

  3. Scoot says:

HOLY SHIT! I totally saw Admiral Ackbar around the 40 second mark…someone tell me I’m not entirely crazy here.

  4. Foul Mouth Matt says:

That’s like 36,000 trillion miles away. I bet the tardis has flown through it.

  5. Ben Whipps says:

Reminds me of the good ol’ days with the windows 95 flying through space screen saver. Just slightly updated

  6. Geoff says:

@ Chris Hardwick: Maybe he was expecting it to become a woman giving birth to billions of stars, a la Monty Python’s Galaxy Song?

Actually, that would be kind of cool…

  7. Yeah there aren’t really any giant monoliths out there. Or space babies.

  8. Chris Hardwick says:

Yeah, BrokenJpg! Science is WHACK. Can’t believe those NASA assholes only went 6000 light years deep. Pffft.

What the fuck did you want to signify the end? A mass of protostellar material to form a mouth and go, “TADAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!”

  9. andoran_g33k says:

    @ Rhacodactylus: Well said.

  10. Great video . . . the guy above me is “fail,” I’m sure he wouldn’t have complained about “man gets hit in the nuts with coconut,” but the majesty of the universe, that just doesn’t do it for him.

  11. BrokenJpg says:

What that’s it? It just goes for a ways and then stops. This video is fail!!
