It was announced a couple weeks ago that the New Zealand musical comedy duo would make their return at the Newport Folk Festival this summer. On Monday it was revealed that that performance is just part of a 2016 North American summer tour that is taking Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement all across the country during June and July. As the duo pointed out themselves, “This is the band’s first tour since going out on the first-ever ‘Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Tour’ in 2014.”
The duo is promising to showcase new material, although we’re hopeful that the group finds time in their set to bust out some live classics from their 2005 HBO special One Night Stand and their 2002 live album Folk the World Tour. Maybe they’ll do something special with “Bowie,” a skit/song they perform in which the recount a tale of “time tripping” on acid and meeting David Bowie in the 1970s. It would be a fitting tribute that would be appreciated in a new light following the legend’s passing.
Regardless, it seems like there’s no way this can fail, as FOTC’s live sets have always been dynamite and uproariously hilarious. As a refresher, below is a video of the duo performing “Jenny,” a musical skit that’s a staple of their live set (and one that will hopefully make a return this time around). Tour dates and ticket information can be found at Flight Of The Conchord’s website, and the Omnichord-tastic tour poster can also be seen below:
