First “Total Recall” Trailer

As promised last week, via the teaser to the trailer, the first full trailer for Len Wiseman’s remake of Total Recall was released on Sunday. Looks pretty neat, right? I’m looking forward to the film because it looks similar to, and yet different from, the Paul Verhoeven original. Wiseman’s version completely omits any mention of going to Mars, so it looks as though they’ve made up for it with a lot more jumping over rooftops and things. Everything looks a little more Blade Runner-y and Minority Report-y than the original did, which is okay with me. Bryan Cranston looks like he’ll make the perfect villain, in the role originally played by Ronny Cox, and Colin Farrell looks to deliver a much less “Aghghghagah” version of the lead character than ol’ Arnie did. Hopefully it’ll live up to the hype. I also really hope it still contains a woman with three breasts. Total Recall hits theaters August 3rd.

Is it just me or do the dudes at 1:26 of this look like the Cerberus dudes from Mass Effect?

  3. Liam Astley says:

I hate to do the predictable “I HATE CHANGE” nerd pre-judging thing… but this looks horrible. They’ve taken the original and stripped out the charm, and don’t seem to have added anything else back in apart from drab sets and some CGI ripped off from Minority Report

  4. Aaron says:

Yeah, watch the original, if only to see Arnold and others go all puppet face when suffocating on Mars. It makes no sense, and is worth the lulz.

But this has a lot of people in it I like. Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, and Bryan Cranston. I just wonder, if we know the story of the original, what a remake is going to offer us. The original isn’t even that old and I remember it clearly. They’re gonna need to change the story substantially to draw in those who’ve seen the original.

  5. Harrison says:

I know that this is a remake of a movie I have yet to actually watch, but I can’t help but feel like I’ve already seen this trailer…it feels like an amalgamation of The Matrix and Serenity. Probably just me being stupid. I should probably actually watch the original.
