It’s crazy to think that it’s already been a whole year since The Force Awakens hit theater. Now we have another Star Wars movie hitting the big screen already, with Rogue One arriving on movie screens around the world in just a matter of weeks. Remember when we had to wait years, even decades between Star Wars movies? (Well, now that Disney owns Lucasfilm, rest assured that will never happen again).
Although we’ve had a ton of trailers and promo spots for the film over the past year, we finally have our first full scene from the movie, which you can watch now above, thanks to the folks over at Vulture.
In this first full clip from Rogue One, we see Felicity Jones’s character of Jyn Erso and Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor run for their lives from a squad of Stormtroopers on the planet Jedha, which was once a holy land to the now decimated Jedi Order. After the required bout of fisticuffs and blaster fire are traded between the Rebels and the Imperials, we get a rather funny comic relief moment with Alan Tudyk’s reprogrammed Imperial battle droid, K-2SO. You can hear Michael Giacchino‘s score in this scene as well, and he’s certainly channeling his inner John Williams.
You can tell from the comedic moment with Alan Tudyk’s K-2SO character that although Rogue One is supposed to be the “gritty, Saving Private Ryan” of Star Wars films, this is still a Star Wars movie, and therefore needs to be fun. And from the look of the clip above they are definitely bringing the fun back, even if the stakes for the galaxy are super high this time.
