Long hair and mustaches? Check. Sweeping glances at unassuming local beauty? Check. A melancholy song with a story to tell? Check. Two white dudes looking at each other? Check, check, check. That means only one thing, folks: True Detective season two is here. And by golly, and not even the Yellow King could temper our anticipation for HBO’s most mysteriously broody little show.
We’ve all waited with breath that is baited for a look at Nic Pizzolatto’s ruminations on Los Angeles’ “hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system,” and now we — at last! — have an official sneak peek, with HBO delivering us the one-two punch of brand new images and never-before-seen teaser video in order to visualize what the series will actually look like.
And oh, do those first-look, character defining images of our super brooding cast of pretty white people tell a story. By the looks of it Taylor Kitsch, Rachel McAdams, Colin Farrell, and Vince Vaughn are going to have quite a heavy (and heady) bit of business to navigate. And if Farrell’s ‘stache is any indication, we’re fairly certain he’s the one who’s set to get caught up in time’s flat circle. (Although maybe that’s a hell reserved specifically for Rust Cohle. Only time will tell!) We, admittedly, sort of doubt that because what is a novel writer-turned-television-showrunner’s bread and butter if not ruminations on what it all means, amirite?
But hey, we’ll know more when we know more, right? Can’t nobody outrun the wickedly fickle hands of time’s dark clock. Besides, June 21st — the show’s premiere date — isn’t all that far off in the grand scheme of things.
