Last year, writer Mark Waid launched a S.H.I.E.L.D. ongoing series that incorporated characters from Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. into the Marvel Universe. But in the All-New, All-Different Marvel Universe, that connection is going to be pushed even further.
Marvel has released the first few pages of the new Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ongoing series that features Agent Coulson, Deathlok, Mockingbird, Daisy Johnson, Melinda May and the seemingly inseparable science duo, Fitz and Simmons. The new series is being written by Marc Guggenheim, the executive producer of Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. While it may seem strange that one of DC’s go-to TV guys is writing the comic book version of Marvel’s flagship show on ABC, keep in mind that Guggenheim has written Amazing Spider-Man, Young X-Men, Wolverine, and The Punisher for Marvel before.
German Peralta (Moon Knight) will be the artist of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which will pit Coulson’s team against some of the deadliest threats in the Marvel Universe. In our gallery below, May even points a gun at a very Robery Downey Jr.-esque Tony Stark, which appears to hint at a conflict between S.H.I.E.L.D. and Iron Man.
Here’s the solicitation copy for the first issue:
“Coulson and his team – May, Fitz, Simmons, Deathlok, Mockingbird and Quake bring the brains and brawn to tackle any situation the Marvel Universe can throw at them. But have they met their match when a dark secret from Coulson’s past threatens to tear S.H.I.E.L.D. apart from the inside? What exactly are the “Coulson Protocols”? And what is Iron Man doing there? Those answers and more lie inside the bombastic debut of AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. #1!”
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. # 1 will be released on January 13, 2016.
