Firefly Lands on The Science Channel!

Well I’ll be gorrammed! The Science Channel has acquired the rights to Joss Whedon’s kick-ass Space Western. Additionally, outlaw physicist Michio Kaku will do interstitials within the show discussing the science behind its principles. DOUBLE NERD SCORE.

You won’t be able to take the sky from me starting March 6th at 8p for the two hour pilot, followed by the first ep at 10p, and then each successive Sunday. At this time there don’t seem to be any plans for new episodes, but the way TV works is, IF YOU WATCH IT THE NETWORK WILL MAKE MONEY AND THEN PROBABLY MAKE MORE BECAUSE MONEY IS RAD.

Read a brief interview with Nathan Fillion about this awesomeness at ew.com.

    I WANT NEW EPISODES!
I keep hearing gossip of new shows! Where and when are they?!?
    Please…please…please!!!

  2. Walter Clark says:

Firefly is okay, except it have some violence in it. One time when I saw the previews of one episode of Firefly, I saw a person shot someone on that show dead with a gun. To me, that kind of scene on that show is too inappropriate for younger children to watch. With a scene like that, They should have aired it on Syfy channel in the first place, which air those kind of TV shows, instead of the Science Channel which mostly airs documentary-related shows.

I don’t watch Syfy channel that much, because the shows or movies they air on that channel have some violence, they should have aired Firefly on that [Syfy] channel in the first place

  4. tudza says:

Watched the shows. Enjoyed the shows.

Emailed Science Channel to tell them selling magic power bracelets ought to be beneath their dignity.

  5. Shiny says:

    Where’s the Nathan Fillion podcast?!

  6. Avery says:

Fuck yes… the time has come for greatness to return

  7. Les says:

Help Nathan buy Firefly –> http://dft.ba/-firefly

  8. Richard says:

I’m glad that this is happening, I own the series and the film. Wouldn’t it be better to have a new crew and cast than the surviving crew.

  9. BenSpark says:

Step 1: Get Fillion on the podcast
Step 2: Acquire the collective of the browncoats movement to your side.
Step 3: Resurrect the show from the ashes and make more episodes or another movie.
    Step 4: Much Rejoicing!

  10. CJW says:

This total Firefly nerd is so excited about this! It’s lovely that the series continues to be enjoyed and relevant. A bunch of Firefly nerds got together and made a fan film called “Browncoats:Redemption” and are donating the proceeds to five charities supported by the original cast of Firefly. I’d love to send a copy your way, Chris!

  11. Greg says:

Sounds awesome! I am a huge Firefly nerd, but too bad I and many other Americans don’t get that channel… Dozens of channels of reality bullsh*t but a channel called “Science”? Naw, that’s extra… Screw you Comcast.

  12. Brian says:

I would love to help Firefly come back, but Michiko bothers me. On his Science Channel show he spit out bogus made up technobabel and claimed it as Star Trek. So torn…

  13. oboyledk says:

While I’m just as excited to see FF back on the air… THe main issue with continuing the series (besides the fact that Joss and otehrs ahve moved on) is that half the characters were killed off in the movie.
Sure you could “write them all back in” but I just don’t know…

  14. Nick says:

I think that the Nerdist Podcast would serve as the perfect platform for a Firefly cast reunion! Imagine how awesome that would be…

  15. Louis says:

    Rad. Rad, indeed hardwick.

*adjusts monicle, gets on ship, flies away*

  16. Taylor says:

whoops jumped on that too quick, didn’t see Matt’s comment, and it was in all caps too.

  17. Taylor says:

Hey Chris. When are you going to get Nathan on the podcast? That would be nerdtastic.

  18. Sawyer says:

I love Fillion’s idea of doing Firefly as a web series. Someone rig the lottery in his favour so we can make that happen.

  19. coconutphone says:

I’d be even more excited if we got that channel up here but I’ll settle for being happy for my American neightbors.

    Where are my DVDs?

  20. Tyler says:

Shiny! i dbout theyll make new episodes even if the whole world watches the airings of the show. Joss has stated that his Firefly days are kaput over done with. while i do hold out hope for new shows and a continuation of the series, i think the actors have moved on, and so too has Joss. :( i don’t think Firefly would be the same unless all the people came back.
the addition of Michio commenting on the science in the show is blowing my mind though. i’dd definetly be watching. now only if SGU wasn’t cancelled :(

  21. oakley says:

Michio needs to explain the physics of Mal’s tight pants and Saffron’s incredible hotness.

    SQUEE!

  22. Charles Thurston says:

that is ALL KINDS of awesome! new eps of Firefly would be incredible. I love how TV series are now like comic book heroes cause they never really die if enough money can be made of their return.

  23. strutterms says:

You pwn for posting this, SC pwns for airing this…COMPLETE THE NERD TRINITY BY HAVING NATHAN ON THE RUTTIN’ PODCAST! ;P

Thrilling heroics, anyone? I’ll just be over here, having a geekgasm.

  24. Matt Storm says:

    AMAZEBALLS!!!!
